Belle Fourche (meaning Beautiful Fork, in French) is a progressive community of nearly 5,000 citizens located just North of Spearfish. The town is a regional trade center for people from the surrounding States of North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. A hub for livestock auctions and wool shipping, Belle Fourche is still one of the most important livestock shipping railheads in the West. Much of the downtown architecture is still in tact, however many of the beautiful old buildings now house antique shops. Just a few miles NE of Belle Fourche, you will find Orman Dam- the world’s largest earthen dam- a favorite to water skiers, fisherman, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The rural community of Belle Fourche holds Midwestern traditional values and has been a recreational haven for locals and tourists alike. The strong values, excellent education opportunities and low crime rate make Belle Fourche a wonderful place live and raise children.
